Fun Facts in Ghana: Part 3

By Rainy Season Ghanaians mean cloudy season--I haven't seen the sun since Spring Break. It's a little depressing. Oddly it doesn't really rain though. Hopefully it won't be like this for all of April!

If you're Coca-Cola, Guinness, or a cellphone provider, you own Ghana. It's pretty despicable how many ads there are of these products in Accra. I'll have upcoming pictures to show some of it. I'm interested in 3 particular things: the fact that government signs like "You are now entering Accra" are actually advertisements as well for Tigo, a cell phone provider, which could be confusing for someone not familiar with Ghana, thinking the town they are entering is Tigo; the fact that National Monuments such as Independence Square and the Independence Arch )forgot correct name) appear on Guinness ads yet I can't take a picture of these government buildings; and the fact that the small shacks throughout the city are all painted as advertisements for coca-cola or a phone service such as MTN, Vodaphone, Vain, and Tigo. Who paints them and why do the owners let them?

This isn't a fun fact per se--My laptop is not functioning anymore. Some sort of power surge? That would explain why the battery died but i cannot get internet anymore either. We have an IT guy so i'll see what he says. Until then, I just have to keep it plugged in but will have to use the academic center computers for internet usage so communication with me has gotten worse if that was even possible.

Can't think of more facts....there's a large Lebanese Community in Accra. A lot of them love to go to the Accra Mall. Don't know if anyone reading cares though...

Spring Break!

Spring Break was exhausting. I don't think i knew exactly what i was getting into. But it was also really fun and i saw a lot. Unfortunately you all will not be able to see half of the fun since my camera broke halfway through the trip (dont worry i had it fixed when I got to Accra, so you will all still see more pictures of Ghana!). I took many pictures with friend's camera too of the later half of the trip too but for now here's the early part of the adventure:

View from Mt. Afajado. This was a difficult hike. Very Steep and not a lot of shade (which I was not expecting). But i still made it to the top of the tallest mountain in Ghana!

This is the town of Liati Wote where my hike began.

This is another intense and difficult hike I did the following day in Likpe Todome to see some caves.

There were a bunch bats in this cave:

If you look closely, you can see the upper falls of Wli falls--the tallest waterfall (allegedly) in Ghana. This was the view from our hotel:

The hike to Wli falls was luckily not difficult at all! We had to cross some bridges and this one was under construction but no big deal.

This is how you make palm wine!

More Bats!

This is Mount Gemi. We stayed at a mountain across the valley overlooking it. Very pretty (will show you the view when i get my friends pictures!) We stayed near Biakpa. We had to walk back down into town since no transport passed through our mountain.

So many different butterflies on our walk down!

Aflabo Falls--where my camera broke while my guide was carrying my bag ( didnt realize it was broke until later). As beautiful as Vli--well almost--but very difficult to get to.

Will hopefully be able to show more pictures of me feeding Mona Monkeys bananas, Cape Coast Castle, Green Turtle Lodge (the waves were awesome), and Busua Beach!
